Wayfarer Sunglasses: ‘80s Retro Look Seen on Celebrities

1980s fashions have been coming back since 2006, but only recently have we seen celebrities sporting wayfarer sunglasses. The sunglasses, seen on actors and musicians in the mid to late 1980s ranging from Tom Cruise to Depeche Mode, are back and in just as many color combinations as before. Hilton sister number two, Nicky, was seen wearing Ray-Ban wayfarer sunglasses recently, but more celebrities have been seen wearing this style. Although the frames Hilton has on are standard black, she can be seen farther down on the page with a pair of light turquoise frames with black lenses.

Ray-Bans are the brand of choice for the wayfarer style, but other brands carry this style, as well. Ray-Ban, on the other hand, doesn’t only offer an updated look on one of its classic styles but, through many retailers, their styles from the late-‘80s and early 1990s are still available. Although Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses aren’t the only style by the brand, it’s one of the brand’s most notable styles. Aside from being seen on modern-day celebrities, Ray-Ban wayfarer, and other styles like aviators, shades appeared in various films in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

For those of us who aren’t celebrities, wayfarer sunglasses are still seen as more of a hipster look and, for a look with less irony, oversized and aviator sunglasses are still in style. Nevertheless, if you want to shake up your sunglasses selection a bit, adding a pair of black on black wayfarers isn’t a fashion don’t. As Ray-Ban and other makers reissuing the wayfarer style again, colors are important. For a pair of sunglasses that goes with everything, black or tortoise frame with black lenses is the most versatile. But, if you’re looking for a pair of sunglasses that jumps out a bit more, frame colors range from the bright shade Hilton is seen wearing to neon shades. Although probably pairing neon wayfarers with acid wash jeans is somewhat cringe-worthy, pairing them with darker colors, so that they stand out more, is more acceptable for the times.

New Fragrance by Jimmy Choo

The designer famous for its handbags and shoes is now adding scents to its line of products. Apparently, having a Jimmy Choo perfume has been in the works for over two years, but the fragrance is now set to appear by January 2010. The Jimmy Choo perfume is a women’s fragrance but, at this point, the scent hasn’t been revealed yet. Although considering the ostentatious nature of many of Jimmy Choo’s shoes and handbags, anything is possible, really. As the president behind Jimmy Choo wants to accessorize the whole woman, wouldn’t the perfume need to match the shoes and the handbag?

Jimmy Choo styles change with each season, and this past season, with studs on leather a popular theme, Jimmy Choo shoes and handbags have also received the stud treatment. But what sort of fragrance would match with this type of ensemble? Whether or not you consider studs to be western or rocker chic, a grass or an aqua fragrance definitely wouldn’t go with the rest of the accessories. Out of fruity, floral, and sweet (or dessert) smelling fragrances, the most likely would be a floral combination or a citrus perfume. But, with designers for perfumes sometimes combining two types of perfumes, such as grass and floral or citrus and floral, a Jimmy Choo perfume might smell completely different from everything else out there at the moment.

Or maybe not. A fragrance often completes a brand’s image. Adidas fragrances, for example, live up to the athletic image of the sneaker and clothing brand by having combinations of citrus and light floral notes – not too strong but not too subtle in either case. Jimmy Choo, on the other hand, is known for being high end, ostentatious, and synonymous with Sex and the City. In this case, anything is possible, although Jimmy Choo and general fragrance lovers should expect a complex, multi-level fragrance to complement the other accessories by the brand.

About Men’s Cologne

This blog hasn’t done much in regards to men’s fashion, but, looking at fashion overall, at least eighty percent is geared toward women, and the remaining twenty percent toward men. After all, how many men would feel comfortable in the supposedly latest looks of men’s fashion, such as skinny jeans and paisley shirts that have been featured in GQ? For the matter, how many economical retailers for men actually carry men’s skinny jeans and paisley shirts? Price aside, one aspect of fashion that men don’t really see as “metro” is fragrances. While some cologne in recent years have taken on a more feminine quality by adding fruity or floral notes, most colognes and men’s fragrances simply stick to the basic template: amber, spices, and lavender.

The backbone of many men’s fragrances is this combination of scents. In spite of the lavender, the cologne isn’t overall feminine. Often, other notes are added to this combination, and these are typically musk, bergamot, or patchouli. Nearly all designer brands have some sort of cologne with this combination under their label, as this combination, often with musk or patchouli, is considered a classic men’s fragrance.

But what about other men’s fragrances? While the amber, spices, and lavender combination is common, other types of men’s cologne are on the market. One popular type is an aqua cologne and, by name, this scent is designed to smell like the ocean. An aqua cologne often has water notes, as well as various tropical notes of the sea and tropical fruits. In addition, colognes aren’t immune to the celebrity brand treatment. While many more celebrities have women’s fragrances, men also have their fair share of celebrity perfumes, with the most prominent on the market being any of soccer player David Beckham’s scents. Other celebrities with a line of perfumes, such as Paris Hilton, also carry cologne with a similar scent.

Movie and Celebrity Sunglasses: Copy that Look

This blog often talks about the certain handbag styles seen on celebrities out on the street but, often, handbags aren’t featured in films. A pair of sunglasses, on the other hand, often makes a movie character, and can turn a good guy into a badass. Sometimes, the style is even copied by film goers – or television watchers – such as the aviator sunglasses sported on Tom Cruise in Top Gun. But where do these styles come from? As with handbag blogs knowing or trying to guess the designer brand seen on celebrities, similar blogs are available for sunglasses.

The particular blog linked above identifies famous sunglasses worn in movies, as well as notable celebrities in sunglasses out on the street. For example, want to know the sunglasses worn in 1998 film Men in Black? The blog identifies them as a certain style of Ray Bans, which, by 1990s style standards, were all-black wraparound sunglasses. Other iconic shades are identified, such as the aviators worn in Top Gun, as well as the mirrored aviators worn in Sylvester Stallone in Cobra. Both of these, too, are Ray Bans, as well as the wayfarer sunglasses sported on Cruise in Risky Business. Is Ray Ban, perhaps, the brand behind all of these iconic ‘80s and ‘90s sunglasses? It certainly looks that way by scanning Sunglasses ID.

But sunglasses in films and on television aren’t the only ones identified, and celebrities known for their taste in shades, Bono being the prime example, also have their sunglasses identified. If you’ve been looking to copy Bono’s wraparound or shield look, his shades as of recent have been Armani sunglasses. The blog, as with most blogs, doesn’t sell the sunglasses directly, but they identify the models associated with the sunglasses. Sunglasses fans, then, can go to any sunglasses retailer and look for the respective pair, especially as many retailers continue to carry classic ‘80s and ‘90s styles as vintage sunglasses.

Python Handbag Seen on Rihanna

Python is literally on all types of handbags this season and, in a sense, isn’t exclusive to one design. Recently, singer Rihanna was spotted with a python print handbag, which has been seen on many other celebrities this past summer. The particular handbag seen on Rihanna, however, is described as a puffy purse, which is a somewhat different style for a handbag than that seen on other celebrities. On one hand, it’s somewhat similar, as it has the large size and baggy, slouch style seen on various hobo bags. But, while many python handbags are designed in this hobo style, the puffy python purse seen on Rihanna is closed and clipped at the top, making the handbag look like an oversized coin purse.

As Rihanna, as well as other celebrities featured on this blog like Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson with python handbags, have shown, python can be worn a number of ways. If you read the Salon.com article linked here a few weeks ago about the python and snakeskin clothing trend back late in 2000, the main difference between then and now with python is that is real skin is used, as opposed to faux python print on pants and shoes. The faux print from nine years ago, in addition, always kept the natural scale pattern of snakeskin intact, however, so that a pair of blue and green snakeskin pants looked like snakeskin from several feet away. Rihanna’s handbag, on the other hand, looks like an ordinary brown handbag, until you see the snakeskin texture up close.

But a solid color python print handbag isn’t the only option this season, and various other python handbags still keep the original scales pattern intact, although the skin itself is tinted purple or another bright color. The handbag shape, as well, can range from angular, as seen by Julia Roberts’ clutch a few weeks ago, to the hobo handbag style seen on many celebrities.

Ice, Ice Baby: Ice Jewelry Meets Watches to Create Bling Watches

Urban gear seems to float under the radar of high fashion. Even though urban gear has its high-end brands like Baby Phat and Roca Wear, the street aspect of the clothing – no one will probably be caught at the Emmys in Enyce for fear of negative criticism in the tabloids – seems to put it into a category all of itself. Although standard casual clothing has picked up urban gear aspects here or there (think of Tommy Hilfiger and Polo clothing in the late ‘90s), urban wear has gone off in its own direction with separate standards and high-end urban gear retailers, such as City Blue clothing stores in Philadelphia where Allen Iverson purportedly shopped for his look. But is this such a bad thing? Alternative fashion, at the height of flannel and Doc Martens in the early and mid-‘90s, has its own niche clothing stores, as well.

As this blog has mentioned, watches, to compete with cell phones, have begun to look like jewelry. In terms of urban fashion, this often means being covered in bling to the max. In fact, watch wholesale retailers like Time World USA even sell matching watch and pendant sets to get the bling theme across. Whether the gift recipient chooses to wear a matching watch and pendant is moot but, rather, that even men’s watches have taken on the jewelry appearance of platinum covered in “ice,” or diamond studs, often associated with urban gear.

These ice watches are essentially designed like typical urban jewelry. Whether you’re looking for a higher-end Roca Wear watch or something more affordable, this means a silver, platinum, or gold colored watch covered in rhinestones, or, for high-end watches, diamonds. The clear colored rhinestones cover all aspects of the watch, from the rim of the watch face to the dial to the band. Although diamond studs still appear to be popular, often smaller diamonds or rhinestones are used on the watches instead of a larger rock.

Designer Sunglasses

Designer brands are always going to be in demand. Whether you have the money to purchase designer products directly off the shelves, you wait until department stores like Nordstrom’s hold sales, you head straight for the outlet malls, or you look for a discounted designer retailer, finding a way to purchase designer products in your price range might be straight forward or take a bit of creativity. Designer products cover all aspects of fashion, as you can see on this blog, such as handbags, clothing, and fragrances, and sunglasses are included into that mix. Having a stylish pair of sunglasses always seems to make at outfit look better in summer, and whether you need an up-to-date, vintage, or classic pair of shades, often a designer brand is going to carry a pair of sunglasses to finish off that look.

Nearly all high-end designer brands have sunglasses to their name. Some, such as Juicy Couture, stick to modern styles for women. At the moment, with oversized sunglasses in for women, this means that most of Juicy Couture’s products are going to be geared toward the latest trends. But while a pink pair of Juicy sunglasses may be the “it” look for some, other brands take this trend and give it a vintage spin. After all, oversized sunglasses are nothing new, and vintage looks use the tortoise and dark shade trends of yore for a classic look. For men, aviator shades are what’s in right now, and various designers have their take. Some just use a simple metal frame and dark lenses, while others make this older trend more fun, with thicker, colored frames and gradient lenses.

Whether you’re looking for Ray Ban sunglasses or Dolce and Gabbana, various retailers like Vision in Style, seen in the link above, carry discounted designer styles. If a designer pair of shades isn’t necessarily in your budget at the moment, searching for a designer pair of shades will give you a stylish and longer lasting pair of sunglasses that you can afford.
